Zhirov has played Russia in their youth teams and made his full international debut for Russia in 2005.
Yuri Zhirkov was born to father, Valentin Ivanovich Zhirkov, a factory worker and mother, a post woman by profession on 20 August 1983 in Tambov, Soviet Union.
He came from a very poor family but it did not stop his passion for football and joined the youth club of Spartak Tambov in 1997.

He made his full international debut for Russia against Italy on 9 February 2005 and scored his first international goal against Morroco in a friendly played on June 6, 2014.

He went on to represent Russia at the UEFA Euro 2012, 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The Russian defender is included in the final team of 2018 FIFA World Cup at Russia along with other players like Denis Cheryshev, Aleksandr Golovin, Igor Akinfeev. Russia won the first two game against Egypt and Saudi Arabia and will face Uruguay in the third game.

Talking about his personal life, he is married to his wife to a model, Inna whom he tied his wedding knot on 1 February 2008.
The couple is blessed with a son, Dmitriy who was born in September 2008.
