Ulka Sasaki was born on October 7, 1989, in Numazu, Shizuoka, Japan. He is of Japanese nationality having an Asian ethnic background.
He was fond of combat sports since his early childhood days. Ulka trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from his early days as a child. Sasaki wrestled for several seasons for Hiryu High School and went on to win the All-Japan Combat Wrestling Open Championships for under 66 kg category in 2009.
He started his professional MMA career in 2009 and competed for several MMA promotions such as Shooto, DEEP and GCM.

Sasaki went to win his debut match with a submission hold at the first round and also won the Performance of the Night Bonus award. His next fight came against Leandro Issa during the UFC Fight Night 58 and won the match through a submission in the second round.
