Tiana Mangakahia is a rising Australian basketball player who has been playing in the United States with the Syracuse University basketball team. In 2013, Tiana was part of the FIBA U-19 World Championship bronze medal-winning team. Also, In 2012, she was part of the FIBA U-18 Oceania Championship Gold Medal winning team.
Tiana Mangakahia was born Tiana Cynthia Mangakahia on April 21, 1995, in Meadowbrook, Queensland. She is among the six children born to Maori Mangakahia and his wife, Cynthia. She grew up with five brothers, four older and one younger. Tiana stands five feet and six inches tall and weighs over 60 kgs.
Tiana started playing basketball from her High School days. She started training at the Australian Institute of Sports, and shortly after that, She signed in her home state with the Townsville Fire. Mangakahia got recognized by the Australian National team and was part of several international events winning teams.
After graduating from High School in her Home country, Tiana applied for the Syracuse University. She got accepted into the University and started playing with its basketball team. In the 2018/19 season, the Australian player averaged 16.9 points, 8.4 assists, and 4.9 rebounds while leading the Orange to a 25–9 record in the NCCA Tournament. She earned All-ACC honors and All-America honorable mention. At the end of the season, Mangakahia broke the school's career record for assists and joined its 1,000-point club.
In June 2019, Tiana was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma. So, she took a break from her University and her team. After the surgery, she was declared cancer-free and was cleared to return to practice in late February 2020. Mangakahia finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 36 minutes in her return games in March 2020.
