Ruck won one gold, five silver, and two bronze in the Fina World Junior Swimming Championships making her Canada's all-time leading medalist at the competition.
Taylor Ruck was born on May 28, 2000, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. She was born to parents Colin Ruck and Sophia Ruck who named her Taylor Madison Ruck at birth. Her family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, U.S. before she was one and is where she currently lives. she holds a Canadian citizen and represents Canada in international competition such as the Olympics.
Ruck completed her high school education from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale and is preparing to attend the Stanford University in the fall of 2018.
Taylor Ruck participated in the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships held in Singapore. She won the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle at the competition breaking the Championships record in the final. She also won the 200-meter freestyle in a championship record. She made a bronze finish in the 200 backstrokes, gold in the mixed 4x100 meter free, silver in the 4x200 meter free and a bronze in the women's 4x100 meter freestyle event.
Following Ruck's success in the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, many expectations were upon her to be selected as Canada's representative for the 2016 Summer Olympics. She nearly missed the trials for the qualifying round due to bronchitis but officials took her illness into account and named her to the team for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
At the age of 16, Taylor Rusk was representing Canada in the 2016 Summer Olympics. She swam the last leg in the heats and the second last leg in the women's 4x100 m relays final for Canada competing against Penny Oleksiak, Chantal van Landeghem, Sandrine Mainville, and Michelle Williams. She swam to a bronze medal which was the first time Canada had won in Women's freestyle relay at the Olympics in 40 years.
On that very Olympics, Rusk was part of the 4x200 meters freestyle relay team along with Katerine Savard, Emily Overholt, and Kennedy Goss, and won her second bronze medal in the competition. For the 2017 season, Ruck relocated back to Canada and began training at the High-Performance Centre- Ontario and began training with teammates Oleskiak, Toro, Van Landegham, Rebecca Smith, Sandrine Mainville, Kayla Sanchez, and Richard Funk.
Rusk competed at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships to try and qualify for the Canadian team. She was not able to recreate her performance of the previous year in Olympics and failed to place any higher than fourth. She did not qualify for the Canadian team and as such missed Worlds.
At the 2017 World Junior Swimming Championships team in Indianapolis, Taylor Rusk was part of the gold medal 4x200 m freestyle team. She set the world junior record in the girl's 100 m backstroke semis. Despite her outstanding performance in the semis, she lost to Regan Smith in the finals and finished second in the event. Ruck, however, made a first-place finish in both the 4x100 m relay and the 4x100 m medley adding two gold medal to her collection.
Rusk was part of Canda's 2018 Commonwealth Games team. In the competition she out-swam Ariarne Titmus and Emma McKeon for a gold finish in the 200m freestyle. She won a silver in the 4x100 m freestyle relay and tied for silver in the 50 m freestyle event along with the Campbell sisters. She further added a bronze to her name in the 100 m backstrokes. She won a silver in the 4x200 m freestyle relay and another silver in the 200 m backstrokes. In the 100 m backstroke competition, she finished in third place winning a bronze medal.
At the end of the Commonwealth competition, she had won eight medals which was a record for the Commonwealth Games. Her eight medal finishes tied with Canadian Ralph Hutton, and Australian Susie O' Neil and Eily Seebohm. Her success at the Commonwealth Games made her the most decorated Canadian female athlete ever at the competition.
