Tae Hyun Bang is a professional mixed martial artist from South Korea who formerly was signed to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was released from UFC in October 2017 after found guilty of match-fixing.

He is also well-known by his nickname of “The Supernatural” and “Korean Cowboy”.

Tae Hyun Bang’s Early Life

Tae Hyun Bang was born on April 15, 1983, in South Korea. He holds South Korean nationality. Bang earned his degree in Political from the Kyungbug Science University.

He started his career when he was 12. Firstly, he served as a golf cart mechanic at Yangji Country Club.

Bang's first professional fight came on July 17, 2004, in a win against Chang Min Oh in the event of G5; Gimme Five. After a month, he lost to Mying Kyo Jung on August 20, 2004, in the event, G5 Motorola Middleweight Tournament Opening Round.

Hyun was later included in several tournaments like G5: Yungjin Pharm Middleweight Tournament Opening Round and NF: Neo Fight 6.

He lost to Jeong Ho Lee in quarterfinals of Yungjin Pharm Middleweight Tournament on December 6, 2004.

Later, Hyun went to Japan to join Deep 30; Impact event and lost his first match to Seichi Ikemoto in Osaka, Japan. On May 19, 2008, he won the Deep Lightweight Championship via KO.

On November 1, 2008, he was defeated by Jorge Masvidal at World Victory Road Presents: Sengoku 6.

Hyun made his professional debut against Mairbek Taisumov at UFC Fight Night 34 on January 4, 2014, where he lost via unanimous decision.

Bang won his second match against Kajan Johnson at UFC 174 and was awarded the performance of the night and fight of the Night. He was released from the UFC in October 2017 after his last match with Nick Hein in Germany.

Tae Hyun Bang’s Fight Fixing

Tae Hyun Bang ( 18-10 in MMA and 2-3 in the UFC ) was sentenced to 10 months in prison along with three “brokers” by the Seoul Central District Court in South Korea for taking $92,610 to throw a fight against Leo Kuntz.

Bang beat Leo Kuntz in an MMA bout in 2015 at UFC Fight Night though he had a deal of losing the match. As per online sources, he received death threats from mafia figure, who had bet around £1.2million on Kuntz to win.

Later, Bang agreed to lose the first two rounds and-the-fight to Kuntz. But he later changed his mind and ended up winning a split decision.

According to reports, Bang changed his mind after being warned by UFC officials about fight fixing as the betting lines on the fight changed drastically leading into the event.
