After completing High School, Numerous universities offered her to play for them. Wiese committed to play for the Oregan State University. 

Sydney played in thirty games for the freshman year. She finished the season averaging 13.6 points per game. In the sophomore year, Wiese played in twenty-nine games and played an average of thirty-two minutes per game. She finished the season with 12.6 points and was named into the second-team All-Pac-12. In the junior year, Sydney played just twenty-one games and finished the season with 12.1 points per game. The player improved her stats in the senior year and then averaged 15.4 points in games. Wiese was named to the All-Pac-12 Team by a vote of coaches and members of the news media.

After completing her University career, Sydney listed her name for the 2017 WNBA draft. Los Angeles Sparks drafted her in the 11th overall pick in the 2017 WNBA draft. She would transition into the shooting guard position after playing point guard in college. In the next year, Wiese had a very bad season playing just eleven games. In her third season, Syndey played in thirty-two games averaging 4.8 points per game.  In May 2020, Wiese had signed a multi-year contract extension with the Sparks and finished her season with 6.8 points per game.
