Betnijah Laney is a well-known American professional basketball player. She has played in the Women's National Basketball Association for the New York Liberty. Betnijah was born on October 29, 1993, in Clayton, Delaware. She is among the two children born to Yolanda Laney and her former husband. As a freshman year, Laney played in thirty-two games. She finished her freshman year, averaging 6 points per game. Betnijah made it to the Big East All-Freshman Team. In the sophomore year, Laney played in thirty games and spent an average of thirty-one minutes on the court. She finished the season averaging 9.7 points per game. 

As a junior, Laney played in thirty-five games and finished the season with 11.8 points per game. She was named into the Second-team All-ACC. Many expected her to list her name for the 2014 WNBA draft but instead returned for her senior year. Betnijah improved her stats, played in thirty-two games, and finished her senior year, averaging 15.8 points per game. She was named into the First-team All-Big Ten. After graduating, Betnijah listed her name for the 2015 WNBA draft.

Chicago Sky drafter her with the 17th overall pick in the draft. Laney averaged 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 33 games in her rookie season. She moved to the Perth Lynx for the 2016 season but returned to the Skys at the end of the season. Laney was ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing her left anterior cruciate ligament. Betnijah returned to training in 2018 with the Connecticut Sun. After spending time with other franchises, Laney signed with New York Liberty for the 2021 WNBA season.
