Stephen Josh Nash, Steve Nash is a Canadian NBA player turned to coach, who currently stands as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Besides playing and now coaching, Nash is into business. In 2007, with his business partners, they started the first Steven Nash Sports Club in downtown Vancouver which cost $5 million to purchase. Steve Nash started playing basketball when he 12 or 13 years old. In grade eight he told his mother that one day he would play in the NBA and become a star.
After his grades began to drop at Mount Douglas Secondary School in Saanich, British Columbia, he went to St. Michaels University School where starred in basketball, soccer, and rugby union. During his senior year, as a basketball player, he averaged 21.3 points, 11.2 assists, and 9.1 rebounds per game.
Similarly, he finished his collegiate career playing for Santa Clara (1992–1996), where he graduated with a degree in sociology.
In the 1996 NBA Draft, he was picked 15th overall by the Phoenix Suns. However, Suns fans booed in disapproval of the relatively unknown player after hearing the draft announcement which was because Nash had not played in one of the major college conferences.
He played a supporting role behind NBA veteran point guards Kevin Johnson, Sam Cassell, and later, Jason Kidd during his first two seasons in the team. Following the 1998 NBA draft, he was traded from the Suns to the Mavericks. It was there, Nash established himself as a forbidding point guard, starting a decade as one of the game's top players. Following the 2003-2004 season, he became a free agent and returned to the Phoenix Suns.
On 21 November 2004, Nash scored 22 points, 18 assists, and 4 steals in a 122–111 victory against the LA Clippers. He played for the Suns until 2012.
On 11 July 2012, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Nash in a sign-and-trade deal with Phoenix. He played three seasons with the Lakers and then retired from the Suns.
On 3rd September 2020, Nash was hired as the new head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. On 3 March 2021, Nash was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for February. Nash led the Nets to an Eastern Conference-best record of 9–4 during the month, including a conference-best 5–2 road record.
