Sergei Valerievich Kharitonov or Sergei Kharitonov is a Russian professional mixed martial arts fighter who currently competes for Bellator MMA, M1 Global and Glory in the heavyweight division.


He has competed for several American MMA promotion such as PRIDE, DREAM, and Strikeforce.

Sergei Kharitonov’s Early Career

Sergei Kharitonov was born on August 18, 1980, in Plesetsk, Russian SFSR, Russia. He is of Russian nationality and comes from sporting family. His mother is of volleyball coach and father was proficient in boxing, skating as well as football.

Before he became a full-time MMA fighter, he also trained at the Russian Airborne Troops.

After training extensively at the Russian boxing, Sambo, freestyle wrestling techniques as well as Mulay Thai training to his arsenal, he made his MMA professional debut in 2000. He started his MMA professional career with Japanese mixed martial arts organization, PRIDE fighting championship.

The Russian lost the bout against Alexander Emelianenko at Pride’s Event Final Conflict Absolute on September 9, 2006. He later went to win against Mike Russow at Pride 33 event on February 24, 2007, and participated at the  K 1 Hero tournament.

Sergei later competed for DREAM MMA promotion and afterward signed for the American mixed martial arts promotion, StrikeForce and went on to make his debut on February 2011. He had memorable bouts with MMA fighter such as Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, and several other MMA fighters.

After competing for promotions across Russia and America, he took on Alexei Kudrin at M 1 Global event M1 Challenge 43 and won the match via  Total Knock Out (TKO). He later on signed with the renowned American MMA promotion, Bellator MMA in early February 2016 and made his Bellator MMA debut against Javy Ayala at the Bellator 163.

The Russian lost the match with a technical knock out during the first round of the match on November 4, 2016. He took on Chase Gormley during the Bellator event, Bellator 175 held on March 31, 2017. The Russian MMA star won the bout via KO during the first round of the bout.

Besides his MMA career, he is also an accomplished kickboxer and was ranked third Heavyweight boxer by Glory as of early May 2015.
