Roy Maurice Keane popular as Roy Keane is a former Irish footballer who played the majority of his professional career with Manchester United. Keane was born on 10 August 1971 in Cork, Ireland. He was born in a working-class family. His father Maurice had a job in the knitwear company while he was a child.

From an early age, Keane showed a keen interest in the sports. During his childhood, he played boxing but soon he discovered his passion for soccer. As a child, Keane followed Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur. Liam Brady and Glenn Hoddle were his favorite players.

In his 18 years of long playing career, Keane played for Cobh Ramblers, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Celtic. He started his professional career with the Cobh Ramblers, where he played from 1989 to 1990.

Keane played 3 seasons with Nottingham Forest before joining Manchester United in 1993. Keane's outstanding performance helped him to excel as a captain of Manchester United from 1997 until his departure in 2005.

Then he signed with Celtic where he played for a season. He took retirement from club football on June 12, 2006.
