Richard Andrew Pitino a.k.a. Pick Pitino is an American basketball coach who currently stands as the head coach for Lona College and Greece's senior national team. Earlier, he served for several teams in NCAA Division I and in the National Basketball Association (NBA), including Boston University, Providence College, the New York Knicks, the University of Kentucky, the Boston Celtics, the University of Louisville, and Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League and EuroLeague.

New York City, New York native, Rick Pitino was born on 18th September 1952, under the star sign Virgo. The sixty-eight years holds an American nationality and is of white ethnic background. He played basketball during his high school: St. Dominic and College: UMass (1971–1974) years.

In 2017, Pitino sold his Louisville home for $1.9 million. That same year in November he listed his 12,000 square foot Miami real estate for $29 million. One month later he dropped the asking price to $26 million. He bought the house in 1999 for $5.4 million. He finally sold the property in April 2020 for $17 million.  

Back in 2013, he drove a $450,000 white Lexus LFA sports car.

Rick Pitino is married to Joanne Minardi. The couple tied the knot in 1976 and shares five children. They lost one son at 6 months due to congenital heart failure. In his memory, they established the Daniel Pitino Foundation to benefit underprivileged children.

Joanne has been together with her man in every up and down. In fact, Joanne is responsible for Pitino's Louisville choice over Michigan, where Pitino rediscovered his coaching ability.

In 2003, While dining at an Italian restaurant, a woman named Karen Wise approached Pitino, and eventually, they had a one-night stand. Shortly thereafter, Karen was pregnant and he gave her $3000 for an abortion/medical coverage. Later, Karen married Tim Sypher. 

In 2009, Karen was indicted for extorting Pitino for $10 million, claiming Pitino raped her during their one-night stand. While testifying under oath, Pitino claimed their meeting lasted no more than 15 seconds. Following her conviction, Karen accused the judge, prosecutor, Pitino, and her own attorney of conspiring to ensure she was guilty. 

Despite these, Rick Pitino’s wife found it in her heart to forgive her husband for his infidelity and the couple remains married.

Career

Rick started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Hawaii in 1974 and later, two years, he became head coach. In 1976, he joined Syracuse as an assistant coach. After two years he left the post to become the head coach at Boston University.

In 1983, he joined the New York Knicks of the NBA as an assistant coach where he would serve until 1985 and then moved to Providence. However, in 1987, he returned to New York Knicks but there he lasted two seasons. From 1989 to 1997, he served at Kentucky and then to Boston Celtics of the NBA.

In 2001, he joined Louisville where he would spend 17 seasons but was fired due to an escort sex scandal. From 2018 to 2020, he coached Panathinaikosof Euro league. In 2020, he returned to NCAA after he was named head coach of Iona college.

Rick said, “I took the job wanting it to be my last job. I spoke to numerous people about it, and I’m glad I’m ending [my career] with a small Catholic school that has the potential to be built up into a major power, regardless of what people think. I’m super excited about it. It’s a perfect fit at a perfect time in my life.”
