Renan do Nascimento Mota Pegado or famously known as  Renan  Barao is a Brazilain MMA fighter and has won the UFC Bantamweight previously.

Renan is currently signed with UFC. He is known for his longest winning streak in MMA history with 32 wins( 31 wins and 1 one contest match). His nickname is  Barao was given by his grandmother, after a Brazilian character in Brazilian TV show, Sinha Moca in 1986.

Renan Barao’s Childhood and Early Career

Renan Barao was born to mother, Rene Mota, and father, Netinho Pegado on February 27, 1987, in Natal, the Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. He is a Brazilian by nationality. His parents parted ways when he was a kid and was one of the 11 children of his parents.

He started his career with Brazilian sports school, Kimura Nova Uniao in Natal, Brazil and turned professional in 2005.

Renan has competed for several  MMA organizations in Brazil and was a teammate as well as trained under Jose Aldo at Nova Uniao. He got his black belt, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while under tutelage from Andrea Pederneiras in September 2011.

Renan Barao’s Career in North America

He later moved to the United States and joined  World Extreme Cage fighting in 2010 and was expected to have a match against Clint Godfrey on June 20, 2010, at WEC49 but instead face off against Anthony Leone due Godfrey being sideline out of action due to injury.

Barao won the bout with an armbar submission in the third round.

After WEC was assimilated into UFC, he was expected to make his UFC debut against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130 but instead faced Cole Escovedo.

He won the bout via unanimous decision and later on faced Brad Pickett on November 5, 2011.

Renan won with the rear naked chokehold submission in the first round and also winning the Fight of Night honors.

He was expected to face Ivan Menjivar on July 7, 2012, at UFC 148 to determine the number 1 contender for the Interim Bantamweight title after the champion, Dominick Cruz was injured but instead took on Urijah Faber.

The bout did not take place at the event as headliner Jose Aldo was injury instead the match took place on UFC 149 who headlined the event, he won the fight via unanimous decision to become the new Interim Champion.

After an impressive defense for several months, he lost his title to TJ Dillashaw at UFC 173 in the main event via TKO on May 24, 2014.

He later moved to Featherweight division and lost the bout against Jeremy Stephens in UFC Fight Night 88 via unanimous decision and was awarded match of the night honors for both the combatant performance.

Renan returns to Bantamweight category and had a bout with Alijamain Sterling on July 29,2017, and lost via unanimous decision.

Renan Barao’s Personal Life

It is not clear if the UFC star is married or single as there are reports of him having three children.

The details biological name of the mother of these is not revealed. He revealed in an interview that he is a married man and he might not want to share his private life with the public.
