Jose Paulo Bezerra Maciel Junior, better known as Paulinho is a Brazilian professional footballer who currently plays for FC Barcelona and Brazil national team as a midfielder.

Early Life of Paulinho

Football legend Paulinho was born on 25th of July 1988, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He holds a Brazilian nationality and is of the Latin ethnicity. He began his football career with “Pao de Acucar" a football club based in Osasco, Sao Paulo state.

 Paulinho's Club Career

Paulinho began his football career professionally with “Vilnius," which was a Lithuanian football club. For the club, he made 38 appearances and scored five goals.

After a year, he signed to LKS Lodz, making 17 appearances till 2008. He then returned to Pao de Acucar and remained there, until he sighed to “Bragabtibo” in 2009.

While playing for the club, Paulinho drew the attention of Sao Paulo giants Corinthians and signed by the club in 2010. On 30th of May 2012, he scored his first league goal for the club, coming off the bench to score Corinthian’s 4th goal, sealing a 4-2 win against state rivals “Santos."

Throughout his career with the club, Paulinho appeared in 2011 Brasileiro, the 2012 Copa Libertadores, and won the Club World Cup in Yokohama. Paolo made the team win with scoring a goal (1-0), win against European champions Chelsea.

After the expiration of his contract with the club, he signed to “Tottenham Hotspur," an English football club located in Tottenham, Haringey, London, at the club’s record transfer fee at the time.

For Tottenham Hotspur, he made his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace, eventually won the “Man of the Match," winning by 1-0 in a penalty by Robert Soldado. Hence, he made total of 45 appearances and scored six goals from 2013-15.

On 30th June 2015, Paulinho signed a four-year contract for €14 million with “Guangzhou Evergrande” football club. 2-0 away win against “Changchun Yatai," coming on as a substitute for Yu Hanchao in the 78th min.

He scored his first goal in 25th August, with a 35-yard free-kick in the first league of a 2015 AFC Champions League Knock-out stage match in opposition to Japanese side “Kashiwa Reysol.”

In the quarter-final of 2015 FIFA Club World Cup, he scored by heading in opposition to "Club America" in the final minutes of the added-time.

His goal made them the winner by 2-1 and lead the team into the semi-final. In 2017, he extended his contract with the club for until 31st December 2020.

On 14th August 2017, “Barcelona” signed Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande for €40 million. His first debut for the club was a 2-0 win over Alaves. Likewise, on 16th of September 2017, he scored the first goal for Barcelona in a 2-1 victory against Getafe. Recently, he created a victory with the 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao.

International Career

Since 2011, Paulinho has been playing for the Brazil national team. He received 45 caps and scored 11 goals for the national team.

2018 FIFA World Cup

In the 2018 World Cup qualifier, Paulinho scored his very first career hattrick in an away match against “Uruguay."

Paulinho is a happily married man. He tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Barbara Cartaxo in a private ceremony in the presence of their family members and close friends. Till the date, there are no news and rumors regarding their divorce or extra-marital affairs.
