Nahuel Ignacio Guzman Palomeque, better known as Nahuel Guzman is an Argentine international footballer currently playing in the Liga MX club Tigres UANL as a goalkeeper. He has represented Argentina in youth levels and has played 6 matches so far with senior team since 2014.

Guzman was called-up for the World Cup 2018 in Russia after the first choice keeper Sergio Romero picked an injury and was ruled out.

Newell’s Old Boys

Following various youth level at Newell’s Old Boys, Guzman was promoted up to the main team of the club in 2005. In August 2006, he made his professional and first-team debut against C.A. Belgrano.

In 2008, Guzman was loaned out to Independiente Rivadavia until 2009. During his loan spell, he played overall 30 matches for the club.

In the 2013 Final Tournament, he was a key to the Championship of Newell’s Old Boys.

Tigres UANL

On 4th July 2014, Guzman moved to Liga MX club, Tigres UANL, signing a contract worth of $2.56 million. On 19th July, he made his Tigres debut in a goalless draw against Atlas de Guadalajara at the Estadio Jalisco.

In the following season, Tigres reached to the finals of the Copa Libertadores against River Plate. After a goalless draw in the home leg, the Tigers defeated in the second led by 3-0 in Buenos Aires.

In the 2016-17 season, Tigres faced America to become championship for the 5th time. In the first and second match, the Tigres tied 1-1. After an aggregate of 2-2, the team kissed victory via penalty shoot by 3-0, with Guzman stopping all three penalties. He was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the second leg.

Also, the player was awarded the best goalkeeper of the Apertura 2016 with a nine clean sheet and his impressive saves against America in the finals.

Nahuel Guzman's International Career

In 2003, Guzman was called up to the Argentina U-17 team. He became an integral part of the U-17 side in the World Cup of the category 2003.

The following year, he represented Argentina U-20 team in 4 youth-international matches.

In 13th October 2014, Guzman made his international team debut, playing 45 minutes in a friendly match against Hong Kong. The game ended in a 7-0 win over Hong Kong.

In May 2018, Guzman was named in Argentina’s 35 man squad along with his teammates Gabriel Mercado, Lucas Biglia, and Gonzalo Higuaín for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
