Miko Grimes was born Tamiko Grimes on June 21, 1975, in St. Louis, Missouri. At the age of five, she and her mom uprooted to the sunny climes of Southern California. From an early age, she had a fervor for athletics, and she participated in a wide range of sports, including softball, volleyball, basketball, and track and field. 

Grimes studied kinesiology and nutritional science at California State University, where she eventually earned a degree. She spent six years playing basketball abroad in New Zealand, China, Turkey, and Spain.

Journalism Career

Miko Grimes changed to journalism after her mother died of lupus and diabetes. She moved to Atlanta, where she studied journalism at Complete Game Broadcasting. After that, she and retired NBA player Dennis Scott co-hosted a sports talk radio show on 790 The Zone.

The former basketball player has covered games at Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College as a sideline reporter, and she has hosted a sports discussion show on 560-WQAM. Her marriage to NFL star Brent Grimes in 2010 caused her to leave journalism.
