Melvin Manhoef is a native of Paramaribo, Suriname, born on 11th May 1976. At his three, he relocated to Rotterdam, the Netherlands along with his family. During his youth, he played football and was introduced to Muay Thia by his brother, Moreno and his uncle who was also a kickboxer.

At the age of 18, Melvin Manhoef made his professional MMA career debut at Battle of Amstelveen II where he defeated Jordy Jonkers via TKO in round two. In 2006, he joined Japanese mixed martial arts promotion Hero’s, making his debut on 15th March against Shungo Oyama at Hero’s 4. He won the fight via TKO in round one. Further, he took on Crosley Gracie at the event Hero’s 6 and won the fight.
On 9th October 2006, he has two fights At Hero’s 7, where he defeated Shungo Oyama for the second time but a loss against Yoshihiro Akiyama. At Hero’s 8, Manhoef he marked his win against Yoshiki Takahashi.
At Hero’s 9 and Hero’s 10, Manhoef conquered over Bernard Ackah and Fabio Silva respectively.
On 21st July 2014, Bellator MMA announced that they signed with Melvin Manhoef and Paul Daley. On 19th September, Manhoef made his Bellator debut against Doug Marshall at Bellator 125. He won the fight via KO in round one. In his next fight, he was defeated by Joe Schilling on 15th November.
Manhoef started 2015 fighting against Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 133 on 13th February. He lost the bout via KO in the round two. Later a month, the result was changed to a no contest after Shlemenko was tested positive for Anabolic steroids.
On 20th May 2016, Manhoef faced Rafael Carvalho for the Bellator Middleweight Championship at Bellator 155 where he lost a controversial split decision.
Rebounding from lost he made his comeback almost after a year at Bellator 176 where he faced Rafael Carvalho for the second time. He again lost the fight but this time via KO in the round four.
Just after a year, he began MMA, Manhoef stepped in Kickboxing. On 16th March 1996, he had his career first kickboxing fight at Thai/Kickboxing Nijmegen where he faced Samir Benazzouz. However, he lost the fight via KO in round three. Prior to switching to K-1 World GP, he had six more fight amassing a 3-3 record. At K-1 World GP, he won overall four-bout against Tatsufumi Tomihira, Rustan Karaev, Paul Slowinski, and Ramazan Ramazanov.
Throughout his twenty-one years long kickboxing career, he had 38 wins and 14 losses.
Currently forty-two, Manhoef is a family person. He tied the knot with his girlfriend, Tamara. The couple shares a baby boy named Million Manhoef, also trained in kickboxing is now playing soccer.
