Lopez served at the copper mines in Arizona and currently, he works as a wrestling coach at Reign Training Center. He was awarded the state champion in wrestling four times. In addition, he won national champion in freestyle and Greco.

In his next UFC bout, he defeated Mitch Gagnon via Unanimous decision at UFC 206 on December 10, 2016. On his third appearance in UFC, he faced Johnny Eduardo on June 3, 2017, at UFC 212. He won the fight by TKO(punches) in round one.
