Matias Fernandez Early Life

Matias Fernandez was born on 15 May 1986, in Caballito Argentina. His full name Matías Ariel Fernández Fernández. He has always considered himself Chilean and holds of Chilean nationality, though he was born in Argentina. He is the son of Mirtha and Humberto Fernandez. His mother was an Argentine.

Matias Fernandez Club Career

Fernandez started his football career with the youth squads of Colo-Colo at the age of 12. His debut in the Primera División was on 1 August 2004 against Universidad de Chile. He was named the best young player of the season in 2004. He played two seasons for the club and later switched to the La Liga.

He joined Spanish side Villareal in 2006 and made his La Liga debut in a 0–1 home loss against Valencia CF on 7 January 2007. He stayed in the club for 3 seasons earning 71 caps and scoring 7 goals. He then switched to the Portuguese club Sporting.

Fernandez officially moved to the Sporting On 1 July 2009 in a four-year contract. He scored his first goal for his new team on 27 October 2009, he made 61 appearances scoring 7 goals for the club. On 27 July 2012, he was transferred to Italian club ACF Fiorentina. He spent much of his debut campaign on the sidelines, due to injury.

On 31 August 2016, Fernández moved to fellow Serie A team A.C. Milan on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. He made his debut on 6 November coming off the bench in the 2–1 away victory against U.S. Citta di Palermo.

Matias Fernandez International Career

Fernández led Chile at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship as a captain and scored a goal in the 7–0 victory over Honduras. He made his official international debut in 2006.

Fernández quickly established as a valuable part of the main side, netting five goals and appearing for the nation at the 2007 Copa América. After starting prominently in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, he was selected for the world cup squad. He has won over 95 caps for the national side scoring 21 goals.

He is the member of the current national team of Chile and plays with other players like Bryan Rabello, Junior Fernandes, Claudio Bravo etc.
