Massimo Luongo is a professional footballer from Australia who currently plays for National Team of Australia and English Championship club Queens Park Rangers as a midfielder. He first started his professional career with Tottenham Hotspurs in 2011 and also played on a loan for several other Championship clubs.

He has been honored with 2015 AFC Asian Cup Most Valuable Player, AFC Asian Cup Team of the Tournament (2015) and PFA League One Team of the Year 2014–15.

Massimo Luongo was born as Massimo Corey Luongo on September 25, 1992, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He was born to his mother, Ira Luongo, and father, Mario Luongo and grew up as the youngest child with his siblings, Angela, and Tiziano.

Luongo's father is of Italian heritage while his mother is of Indonesian heritage. He enrolled at Waverley College where he won the championship in 2009. Reviewing his nationality, he holds both  Australian and Italian.

Massimo Luongo’s Career

During his youth career, Massimo Luongo played for APIA Leichhardt Tigers and Tottenham Hotspur.

He moved to Tottenham U-18 on January 1, 2011, and made nine appearances for the team during the 2010-11 Premier Academy League, scoring three goals.

Luongo was sent on loan to Ipswich on July 23, 2012, for a 2012-013 season and made his debut on August 14 against Bristol Rovers in the League Cup.

Later, Luongo played his first professional game against Blackburn Rovers. Before ending his loan-contract with the team, he played 9 games.

Luongo again had a loan spell at Swindon Town along with fellow trainees Nathan Byrne and Dean Parrett. He scored his first goal in a 4-1 win over Crewe Alexandra. Later, he extended his contract with the team until August 31, 2013, and was handed the number 4 Jersey.

Luongo was transferred to Swindon Town on September 1, 2013, with the transfer fee of €470K. Later, he left the club in 2015, after making 76 appearances scoring 10 goals.

On July 1, 2015, Luongo was signed by Queens Park Rangers with the transfer fee €4.28 million on a three-year contract. His first match came on August 8 against  Charlton Athletic. He has so far scored 7 goals in 102 appearances.

Massimo Luongo’s International Career

Massimo Luongo played two matches for Australia U-20 team but was not selected for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He earned his first senior cap under the coach Ange Postecoglou on March 5, 2014, in a 3-4 loss to Ecuador. He was then named for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but he did not appear in any matches.

Luongo scored his first international goal in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup against Kuwait. He has been capped 34 times for his national team scoring 5 goals. He is the member of the team that won 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

Luongo was called up by the national team in March 2018 along with Mark Milligan, Aaron Mooy, and Tom Rogic to face Norway and Colombia.

Luongo is married to his wife, Shelley Luongo since 30 May 2015. The duo welcomed their first child, Maxwell on June 15, 2016.
