Jacobus Antonius Peter Cillessen is the name of world-renowned football goalkeeper who is famous as Jasper Cillessen. Currently, he has signed to Spanish club FC Barcelona as well as the member of Netherlands National Team.

Early Life

A native of Nijmegen, Netherlands, Jasper Cillessen was born on 22nd of April 1989, to Ton Cillessen and Nellie Cillessen. His birth sign is Taurus. Talking about his nationality, Cillessen is Dutch and is of white ethnicity. He was raised alongside his only brother Thomas Cillessen.

Cillessen began playing football with De Treffers at the age of 7. Then in 2001, he switched to NEC.

Club Career


In 2008, Jasper Cillessen was promoted to the reserve team of NEC, signing his very first professional contract. After two years, he was offered two-year extension deal at NEC until June of 2012.

On 28th August 2010, he made senior team debut against SC Heerenveen in a 2-2 home draw where he was also voted the “Man of the Match”. Again, he agreed to the new 2-year contract extension with the club until 2014. He was awarded the “Gelderland footballer of the year at the end of the 2010-11 season.


On 27th August 2011, Cillessen moved to Ajax, signing a five-year contract for a fee of $3.56 million. He made his debut in a second round "KNVB Cup" away match against W Noordwijk on September 21. On 23rd October, he made his league debut against arch-rivals Feyenoord in a 2011-12 Eredivisie. He has made total 101 appearances.


On 25th August 2016, Cillessen joined FC Barcelona, signing a 5-year contract for a fee of $17.80 million. He made debut for Barcelona in a home La Liga match against Deportivo Alaves in a 1-2 defeat.

International Career

Jasper Cillessen has represented his nation at both junior and international level. Back in October of 2010, he received first called for the Netherlands National U-21 team for the “2011 UEFA European U-21 Championship qualification play-offs” against Ukraine.

He made his international debut for his Netherlands national team on 7th June 2013. In June 2014, he was picked in the Netherland’s team for the “2014 FIFA World Cup” along with Arjen Robben, Robin Van Persie, and Joel Veltman.

So far he has won 38 caps for his national side.

Personal Life

Twenty-eight years star goalkeeper, Cillessen is neither married nor single; he is in an open relationship with his long-time girlfriend Joan Klooster, a Physical Education teacher. The pair first met each other while they were studying at the HAN University. The couple is together and is living a blissful life.

His partner Joan served as a gym teacher or a teacher at two secondary schools in her hometown Hertogenbosch, between January 2012 and July 2013. She then began working with Sports service Amsterdam as a combination officer.  His lover Joan is also a footballer who plays as an attacker for OJC Rosmalen wearing the shirt no. 11.
