Though Gregorious has never liked the likes of being superior to Jeter, having never answered on replacing Jeter at shortstop, his teammates believe that Gregorius is on a different level.
"We don’t even bring him up anymore,"
Yankee's pitcher CC Sabathia said, referring to the CEO of the Marlins Marlins Jeter.
"Didi has been that good."
While Gregorius still believes that there's a lot of room to improve.
There’s never a satisfaction,”
said Amsterdam, the Netherlands born Gregorius.
“There’s always room to get better. That’s what they told me. Why try to slack off when you can work hard and get better?”
Gregorius continues to get better and better, transforming into one of the game's best shortstops. While the game changer continues to outshine, giving goosebumps to the Yankees' fans yet his career at the team in the next years remains a doubt.
He can be a free agent after 2019 season, and the team could pursue Manny Machado this offseason. Manny plays for the same position as Gregorius and is younger than him, so he might succeed Gregorius in the upcoming season.
Gregorius future depends on the team, whether they want to stick with what they've got rather than shelling out $30-40 million a year over the next decade for Machado, who currently plays for Baltimore Orioles.
