Football Career

Hans Vanaken began his football career playing in the youth system of PSV Eindhoven in 2002. In 2008, he joined Lommel United and played in their youth system until 2010. In 2010, Vanaken was promoted to the senior team of Lommel United, making his senior debut in the Belgian Second Division. Following his string of standout performances for Lommel, he became the center of attraction for many top division clubs.

In 2013, he signed to Lokeren. On July 28, 2013, he made his debut for Lokeren in a 3–2 win against Anderlecht, where he scored two goals. During his two seasons with Lokeren, he played 76 games and scored 19 goals. In May 2015, Hans Vanaken signed to the Club Brugge. He helped the club to lift their 14th league championship. In 2018, Vanaken recorded 21 goals and provided 21 assists, helping his team to its 15th league title and the Belgian Supercup.

In May 2018, he won the Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year award. On January 16, 2019, he won the Belgian Golden Shoe. On August 9, 2019, he agreed on a contract extension that would tie him to the club until 2024. On December 11, 2019, Vanaken scored an equalizing goal in their Champions League home game against Real Madrid. However, Brugge fell to a 1–3 defeat. Om January 15, 2020, he won the Belgian Golden Shoe awards for the second time. 

International Matches

Vanaken played for Belgium U20 (2012) and Belgium U21 (2013-14) at the international level. On September 7, 2018, Vanaken made his international debut replacing Eden Hazard in a 4–0 win over  Scotland at Hampden Park. On March 30, 2021, Vanaken scored his first two goals for Belgium  in an 8–0 victory against Belarus in qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
