Gorgui Dieng is a Senegalese professional Basketball Player player who plays in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Dieng was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2013 NBA Draft and continues to play with the team as their center.

Gorgui Sy Dieng was born on January 18, 1990, in Kebemer, Senegal to parents Momar Dieng and Seynabou Diagne. As per his nationality, he is Senegalese.

Dieng attended Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia where he played for his high school basketball team. During his senior years, he held an average of 15.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 7.2 blocks.

After completing high school, Gorgui Dieng enrolled at the University of Louisville and played for the Louisville Cardinals.  He played three seasons of college basketball and forewent the senior season to enter the 2013 NBA draft.

Gorgui Dieng's Professional Life

In the 2013 NBA draft was picked by the Utah Jazz with their 21st overall pick and was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In his rookie season with the Wolves, he played in 60 games, starting in 15 games. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team.

Dieng showed great improvement in the second season of his career. He had an average of 9.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists which was a big improvement from his rookie season average of 4.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists.

The Timberwolves extended Gorgui Dieng's contract with a four-year, $64 million contract extension on October 31, 2016. Dieng started all 82 games of the 2016-17 season and averaged 10.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.

Dieng played in 79 games of the 2017-18 season but did not start in any of the game. The current roster of Timberwolves consists of players like Derrick Rose, Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, and C. J. Williams along with Gorgui Dieng.
