Glenn was born as Glenn Alan Robinson III on January 8, 1994, in Gray, Indiana. He is the son of Glenn Robinson, the 1994 NBA first overall draft pick, and mother, Shantelle Clay. Robinson's younger brother Gelen is the 2013 & 2014 Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). 

Glenn III went to Grimmer Middle School in Schererville, Indiana before moving to Lake Central High School in St. John, Indiana. From his childhood, he has huge in basketball and played basketball throughout his high school career.

He played professionally during school and many records on his name. From 2011 to 2012, he played for the University of Michigan in the team Michigan Wolverines. After his sophomore season in college from 2013-2014, he addressed his NBA draft and became 40th overall pick up of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
