Aston Villa

After being promoted from the youth system, Gary Cahill began his professional career with Aston Villa.

Burnley

Immediately after his promotion, he was sent on loan to Burnley on 8 November 2004. He made his club debut on 13 November, in the Football League match against Nottingham Forest. His only goal for the club came on 3 January 2005, against Stoke City. His only season with the club ended up with a total of 37 appearances and a goal.

Return to Villa

After the end of his loan spell with Burnley, he came back to Aston Villa. He made his debut with the club on 20 September 2005, in a match against Wycombe Wanderers. He made his premier league debut on 1 April 2006, in a match against Arsenal. His debut goal for the club came on 16 April 2006, an overhead kick against rivals Birmingham City.

He was further sent on a loan to the Championship club Sheffield United on a three-month loan deal, on 19 September 2007. His club debut came on 22 September 2007, in a match against Crystal Palace. His three months with the club ended up with a total of 16 appearances and a goal.

Bolton Wanderers

He further joined the Championship club Bolton Wanderers on 30 January 2008, signing to a three and half year contract. His club debut came on 3rd February, in a match against Reading. His debut Bolton goal came on 5 October 2008, in a match against West Ham United. He was in the club for three successive seasons appearing in 130 games and 13 goals.

Chelsea

He further joined one of the Premier League's club Chelsea on 16 January 2012. He made his club debut on 5 February 2012, in a match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. His first Chelsea goal came on 18 March 2012, against Leicester City. He gradually formed a strong defensive line with John Terry and David Luiz. He was appointed as the Chelsea club captain on 26 July 2017, ahead of the 2017-2018 season, after the departure of the Legendary captain John Terry. He still plays for the club.

International Career

Gary Cahil has represented his national side England in both junior and senior levels in several major tournaments. He made his senior international debut on 3 September 2010, against Bulgaria. He made his first international start on 29 March 2011, against Ghana in a friendly match.

He was named the vice-captain of his national side in September 2014, after the retirement of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. He still plays for his national side along with Marcus Rashford and Danny Rose. He has won over 58 caps for his national side scoring 4 goals.
