Filipe Luis Kasmirski better known as Filipe Luis is a Brazilian professional footballer who currently plays for Spanish club Atletico Madrid and the Brazil national team.

He started his career with Figueirense and has played for several other top European clubs like Ajax, Chelsea etc.

Early Life of Filipe Luís

Filipe Luis was born on 9th of August 1985, in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina as Filipe Luis Kasmirski. His both paternal and maternal grandparents were European immigrants, who came to Santa Catarina. Talking about his nationality, he is a Brazilian and is of Italian ancestry.

Club Career

Figueirense

In 1995, Luis began his football career professionally with Figueirense club. After playing for some years in the youth team, he was promoted to the main squad of the club in the year 2003. As a youth team player, he appeared with the senior team in 22 matches and scored 1 goal.

Ajax

Then in 2004, he switched to Ajax and played in the youth team of the club for the short period of time and subsequently was promoted to the senior team of the club but could not appear in any of the matches.

Rentistas

The following year he signed a contract with Rentistas and was directly loaned to Real Madrid B team.

Real Madrid B

Luis played one season with Real Madrid B team but could not score a single goal in 37 appearances.

Deportive La Coruna

For the 2006-2007 season, Luis was again loaned to Deportive La Coruna, with an option of signing the player permanent for the fee of $2.2 million. For the next season, the contract was extended with the same buy-out clause. He scored 1 goal in 52 appearances with the club.

On 10th June 2008, Luis signed a permanent 5-year contract with Deportivo. In his debut season for the club, Luis was the only the outfield player in La Liga to appear in all of the thirty-eight leagues' matches, scoring two goals.

Till 2010, Luis scored 5 goals, appearing in 59 games for the club.

Atletico Madrid

On 23rd July 2010, Luis joined Atletico Madrid, signing a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £13.5 million. On 26th of December, he made his team debut at home against Real Zaragoza.

In the 2013-14 editions, Luis made his UEFA Championship League debut, leading the Colchoneros secure first place in Group G by scoring 1 goal in a 4-0 home routing of FK Austria Wien.

Chelsea

On 16th July 2016, Luis signed a contract with Chelsea for a transfer fee of £15.8 million.

He stated that "This move is a dream come true for me. I now have the opportunity to play for Chelsea, and also in the Premier League. I'm very happy and looking forward to getting started and giving my best for the team during the coming seasons."

For the Chelsea, Luis made his team debut on 23rd of July 2014, in a pre-season friendly against Wolfberger AC.

On 30th August 2014, he made his Chelsea's third league match in a 6-3 win at Everton in place of Eden Hazard. On 16th December his first goal came in a 25-yard free-kick in a 3-1 win at Derby County for the League Cup quarter-finals.

Atletico Madrid

On 28th July 2015, Luis re-signed Atletico Madrid on a 4-year contract. He made his return team debut on 22nd August with a 1-0 home win against Las Palmas. On 17th January, he scored his first goal since he made his comeback.

International Career

Filipe Luis was a part of Brazil U-20 national team. On 7th August 2009, he joined Brazil national team. On 15th October, he made his international team debut in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Venezuela.

Though Luis didn’t play in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, he was selected in the team which won the title. Likewise, he was one of the 7 players who was put on standby for the 2014 World Cup but did not make the appearance.

On 11th October 2014, Luis played in the Superclasico de las Americas in Beijing where the Brazil won against Argentina in a 2-0.

On 17th November 2015, he scored the first goal for his national team in a 3-0 win against Peru for the 2018 World Cup qualification held in Salvador, Bahia. He has been included in Brazil national squad for the World Cup 2018, along with Coutinho, Firmino, and Jesus.

Luis tied the knot with his girlfriend Patricia Kasmirski in a private ceremony. Patricia is the native of La Coruña. The couple first met each other in 2010 and soon started dating. They have been together for 7 years and having the best time of their life.
