His contract with Kansas City Royals ended recently at the end of 2017 season. The Royals were regularly trying to pursue him to extend the contract. However, Padres came up front and signed him without the knowledge of his former team.
Wil Myers had the biggest transfer amount who agreed to 5-year, 83 million deal with Padres in 2017.
The former Royals man hit .318 with a .385 on-base percentage in 2017, both career highs. He hit 25 home runs in 2017, for the second time in a row. There are only 5 players who make more than Eric Hosmer- Miguel Cabrera ($31 million), Joe Mauer ($23 million), Chris Davis ($23 million), Joey Votto ($22.5 million) and Carlos Santana ($20 million).
