Playing Career (1988-2006)

Beginning his career with Crystal Palace in 1988, Southgate played for the team till 1995 recording 15 goals in 152 appearances. Then, he moved to Aston Villa on a transfer fee of £2.5 million and lifted the League Cup with the team in 1995 and in 2001 left the club.

Then he moved to Middlesbrough on a 4-year deal signed on July 11, 2001, on a fee of £6.5 million fees. And after playing for the team till 2006 with 4 goals in 160 appearances, he waved hands to his playing career.

Also, he was capped 57 times to play for England and has scored 2 International goals.

Soon after his retirement, he was assigned for his first managerial role at Middlesbrough in June 2006 and served till  2009.

Career Achievements

During his playing career, Gareth Southgate made the total of 26 goals in 504 appearances. Southgate who formerly captained Crystal Palace and helped to win the First Division Championship in 1993–94 season. 

Along with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, he won the League Cup (1995–96 and 2003–04 respectively). Having played in 2000 FA Cup Final for Villa and the 2006 UEFA Cup Final for Middlesbrough, Southgate also featured his international career with his appearances in 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro Cup (1996 and 2000).

While in the managerial career, Southgate helped England U-21 Team's qualification for the finals of the European Under-21 Championship in 2015 and later was knocked out in the group stages.
