Diego Polenta began his footballing career joining the youth academy of Italian club Genoa F.C. in 2009. He made his senior club debut on April 30, 2011, against Napoli but was further sent on loan to A.S. Bari for the remaining season. He spent three years in the club playing 86 games and scored 5 goals. to Club Nacional de Football in 2014. He still plays for the club and has won over 50 caps for the team.
