Briann Jolie January is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBA). Currently is playing as a point guard for the Phoenix Mercury. Prior to playing with Phoenix Mercury, she had played for the teams Indiana Fever, Tarsus Belediyesi, Raanana Hertzeliya, Elektra Ramat Hasharon, Maranhao Basquete, Adana ASKI SK. She was drafted by Indiana Fever with the No. 6 pick in the first round of the 2009 WNBA draft.

Briann attended Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington. She earned first-team all-state honors by both the associated press and Seattle Times. After high school, she enrolled at Arizona State University. She played in college basketball there.

Briann January's Professional Basketball Career

WNBA Career

Briann January was drafted by Indiana Fever with the No. 6 pick in the first round of the 2009 WNBA draft. As a rookie in the WNBA, January came off the bench, playing 33 games with 4 starts for Indiana Fever. She officially became starting point guard for the fever in 2011. Due to torn ACL, she was sidelined for the rest of the season after playing 10 games.

In 2015, for the first time in her career, she was named a WNBA All-Star. After playing nine seasons with the Fever, Briann was traded to the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for a top-10 draft pick up in March 2018.
Briann re-signed with the Mercury, a multi-year deal in 2019.

Overseas career

January has played for the overseas team in various off-seasons. She played for Tarsus Belediyes(2009–10 in Turkey), Raanana Hertzeliya( 2010–11 in Israel), Elektra Ramat Hasharon(2012–13 in Israel), Maranhao Basquete(2013–14 in Brazil), Adana ASKI SK(2014–15 in Turkey). In July 2016, January signed with Adana ASKI SK for a second stint during the 2016–17 off-season.

Coaching career

January spent her off-season time of 2013–14 as a volunteer assistant coach for the Adelphi University women's basketball program. By the help of January, the team advanced to the NCAA tournament as a #2 seed. She was announced to be the assistant coach for Arizona State's women's basketball team during the off-season, In August 2017.
