In 1st January 2018, he signed a three and half-year contract with Malmo FF for an undisclosed fee.
Traustason has represented his national side at various youth levels such as Under-17, the Under-19, and the Under-21 team.
On 13th November 2015, he made his international team debut in a 2-4 away loss at the National Stadium against Poland. For the Euro 2016, he was included in Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimsson’s 23-man-squad.
His first international goal came on 13th January 2016, in a friendly match against Finland.
His 4th international goal was the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Austria in a Euro 2016.
Similarly, on 11th January 2018, he was called up by his national side for the two friendly matches against Indonesia against Haukur Hauksson, Arnor Smarason, and Albert Guomundsson.
