Zhang Chengdong is a prominent Chinese footballer who made his professional debut in 1999 with the club Liaoning Whowin. Currently, the player plays for the Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune as a Defender.

Early Life

Zhang Chengdong was born on 9th of February 1989, in Baoding, Hebei, China. His birth sign is Aquarius. Talking about his nationality, Chengdong is Chinese and belongs to South-Asian ethnicity.

Club Career

In 1999, Zhang Chengdong started his footballing career professionally with Liaoning Whowin. After playing seven years in the youth team of the club, he was promoted to the senior team of the Liaoning Whowin in 2006. He made his senior team debut on 21st May 2006, in a 5-0 loss in opposition to Shandong Luneng.

After the expiration of the contract, he joined Portugal based team CD Marfa that plays in the Portuguese Championship. On 21st January 2010, he scored the first hat-trick in a 4-3 loss Vs Sporting CP. Further, he was transferred in a loan to Uniao Leiria in July 2010. He scored 2 goals in 14 league games for the club. At the time, he was the first Chinese footballer to play in the Primeira Liga.

After his loan spell at the club, Chengdong was again loaned out to Beira-Mar. In 2011-12 seasons he made 26 appearances scoring 6 goals which impressed his stint at the club. In August 2012, he moved to 2. Bundesliga. On 15 September 2012, he made his team debut in a 1-0 victory over SSV Jahn Regensburg. He played total 12 leagues matches for the club.

On 22nd of July 2013, Zhang Chengdong signed a three-year contract with Beijing Guoan and debuted on 25th of August 2013 in a 4-0 victory over Dalian Aerbin. Likewise, on 17th May 2014, Chengdong scored the first goal for the club in a 2-1 defeat to Shanghai Shenxin.

On 21st July 2015, Chengdong joined Rayo Vallecano on loan for the 2015-16 seasons. For the club, he made his team debut in a 2-0 victory over Getafe in the “2015-16 Copa del Rey”. On 30th of December 2015, he made his La Liga debut for Rayo Vallecano in a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid, becoming very first Chinese footballer to play in La Liga.

On 13th January 2017, the footballer signed with Hebei China Fortune for a record-breaking domestic transfer fee of £18.39 million. On 5th March, he made his team debut in a 0-0 draw against Henan Jianye. For the team, he scored the first goal on 29th April in a 4-0 victory against Tianjin Teda. He has played 28 matches and scored 3 goals till now.

National Career

Zhang Chengdong made his first international appearance for China national football team in 2010 in a loss against Portugal and is the member of the team since then. He has so far played 23 international matches.

Personal Life

Zhang Chengdong is a goal oriented person. He has maintained his personal life low profile. Although he actively surfers social media site like Instagram, he has not posted a single photo of a lady who could be his possible spouse or lover. He might be dating someone and is waiting for the right time to reveal.

Apart from this, he is an animal lover. Chengdong owns an adorable puppy to whom he is attached emotionally. He often posts a picture with his puppy on a photo sharing app Instagram.

Though during 2012 his market value was around £1.26 million, in recent days his market value has degraded rapidly to £473 thousand. Till the date, his total transfer proceeds is £19.74 million. He has not revealed his exact figure of net worth and salary, however, as per the record of his present club Hebei China, it pays an average annual salary of $1,477,333. As he is a star player he might earn more than the average which is estimated to be around $2 million per year.

Currently, the star footballer has a prolific standard lifestyle. He owns a car and often visits expensive holiday destinations.
