Sultan Aliev was born on 17th of September 1984, in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. His birth sign is Virgo. Regarding his nationality, Aliev is a Russian and is of Avar descent as well as a devout Sunni Muslim.

Sultan Aliev made his professional MMA career debut at ProFC – Union Nation Cup 14, where he faced Sergey Guzev and kissed the victory via unanimous decision in the round two.
Further, he defeated Hracho Darpinyan, Fuad Gadyrov, and Marcin Elsner at ProFC: Union Nation Cup Final, Grand Prix Global Caucasus, and Grand Prix Global Finals respectively.
In 2013, Aliev was named as one of the competitors of the Bellator Season 8 Middleweight tournament.
On 14th February 2013, he made his debut at Bellator 89 against Mikkel Parlo. He won the fight in the round three via unanimous decision.
He next faced Dough Marshall at Bellator 92. He lost the fight by split decision in the 3rd round of the fight.
On 7th May 2014, Sultan Aliev signed a contract with Ultimate Fighting Championship. He made his promotional debut against Kenny Robertson at UFC on Fox 14, on 24th of January 2015. Nonetheless, he lost the fight in the first round due to KO punches.
His second UFC fight came on 17th December 2016, against Bojan Velickovic. He won the fight by split decision in the third round.
