Steve McManaman is an English former football player played as a midfielder, winger and playmaker for Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City. The 45 years old professional is one of the most decorated English footballers to have played for a club abroad, he currently works as a co-commentator on BT Sports football coverage and has estimated net worth of $18 million in 2017.

Early Life

Steve McMananman was born on 11 February 1972, in Kirkdale, Lancashire, England and his full name is Steven "Steve" McManaman. His mother's name is Irene McManaman who was bedridden with breast cancer for two years and later died. He grew up being an Everton supporter. He is of British nationality.

Club Career

Steve McMananman began his footballing career with Liverpool. He made his professional debut for the club on 15 December 1990, in a 2–0 league win over Sheffield United at Anfield. He scored his first ever professional goal with a diving header four days later on 21 August 1991 in the match against Manchester City. He was at the club for nine years, appearing in 237 games and scoring 46 goals.

He later moved to Real Madrid on 1 July 1999, he made his dream debut for Madrid on 22 August 1999 in the 2–1 La Liga win over Mallorca scoring a goal and providing an assist. He gradually developed himself in the club and was slowly known all over the world. He was in the club for 4 years appeared in 94 matches and scored 8 goals.

McManaman headed back to the Premier League on 30 August 2004 joining Manchester City. Though he failed to score a single goal at the club in his 30 appearances, his earlier successes enabled him to end his career across all his three clubs with a total of 560 appearances, scoring 80 goals, and 182 assists and 142 of those coming in his time at Liverpool.

International Career

Steve McMananman has experienced playing for his national side in both senior and junior levels. He made his professional debut for his national side on 16 November 1994 in an international friendly with Nigeria at Wembley. He won 37 caps for his national side scoring 3 goals. He decided to retire from his footballing career in 2005.

Personal Life

Steve McMananman is a married man; he dated his girlfriend Victoria Edwards, a barrister and law lecturer at the Autonomous University of Madrid for a long time after knowing each other in 2002. The couple met while they were at Madrid and tied their knots on 7 July 2002, in Mallorca's Palma Cathedral.

The couple together has three children; daughters, Ella in 2006 and Lara in 2009 and a son named Lucas James born in 2012.
