A native of Los Angeles, California, United States, Roger Huerta was born on 20th May 1983, to Lydia and Rogelio Huerta. His father became heavily addicted to alcohol and drug and even got involved in an affair with another woman which led to his parents' separation.
Further, his mother was physically abusive and later left him on his father’s doorstep in Texas. Then he started living with his father and step-mother until his father left home and he was kicked out by his stepmother at 12.
After that, he lived on the street for many years and survived by joining a youth gang. Further, his life started to turn around for the better when his friend’s mother obtained legal custody of him, and three relocated to Austin, Texas. There he enrolled at David Crockett High School where his school’s wrestling coach, Bryan Ashford, support him in division Wrestling.
At the age of 19, Huerta was adopted by Ramirez, already a mother of seven. With the help of Ramirez, Huerta applied for a collegiate wrestling scholarship. More, he joined Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a year remaining in a Business Management bachelor’s degree and stayed in St. Paul, Minnesota. Huerta in his college days worked as a construction worker and a bouncer.

On 2nd August 2003, Huerta made his professional MMA career debut at EC – Best of the Best 2 – Day Event where he defeated Shane Lavafor via TKO. He compiled 13-1-1 (win-loss-draw) record before he signed to UFC.
On 23rd September 2006, Huerta made his UFC debut at UFC 63 against Jason Dent. He won the bout via unanimous decision. With a triumphant debut, he went on to win five consecutive bouts against John Halverson, Leonard Garcia, Doug Evans, Alberto Crane, and Clay Guida.
At UFC 87, he faced Kenny Florian on 9th August 2008. He lost the fight via unanimous decision. The following year, he appeared at UFC Fight Night: Diaz vs. Gillard against Gray Maynard and faced a defeat via split decision.
In 2010, Huerto signed to Bellator, making his debut on 8th April at Bellator 13, where he faced Chad Hinton. He smacked the victory in his first bout via kneebar submission. In his very next fight, he appeared against Pat Curran and lost the fight via unanimous decision. At Bellator 33, Huerta was again defeated but this time by Eddie Alvarez via TKO in the round two.
In 2012, Huerta was signed by Asian-based promotion ONE Championship. On 23rd June he was scheduled to fight Phil Baroni at ONE FC: Destiny of Warrior but was pulled from the bout after he suffered a TKO loss in a fight three weeks prior the event.
In 2018, Huerta re-signed with Bellator. On 6th April 2018, he faced Benson Henderson at Bellator 196 where he lost the fight via submission in the second round.
