Record-Breaking Victory: Lionel Messi Named Ballon d'Or Winner for the Eighth Time in 2023 Soccer

By winning the 2023 Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi has created history as the Inter Miami and Argentina star. He edged past other contenders like Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Kevin De Bruyne for the coveted award that honors the world’s best player. This is his eighth time receiving the trophy.

Messi received the trophy from former Manchester United star David Beckham, who is one of the owners of his new club, at a ceremony in Paris on Monday. He thanked his Argentina coach, teammates, and staff for making his victory possible, as well as paying tribute to the late Diego Maradona, who also helped Argentina win the World Cup in 1986.

Messi's recent Ballon d'Or win was partly due to how well he played at last year's World Cup in Qatar, where he led Argentina to their first title since 1986. During the event, he scored seven goals and set up three others. Two of those goals came in the final against France. He also won the Golden Ball award as the best player in the World Cup.

In his long career, the football star said that becoming a world champion was the prize he was missing. He also said that it would be a pleasure that would never go away. He also said he hoped to enjoy it for a long time.

From Paris to Miami

Even though Messi stopped playing in the top level of European soccer in 2023, he still had some great moments with his club team. He helped PSG win their 11th French league title, but they lost in the round of 16 of the Champions League. Then he moved to the United States and joined Inter Miami. It was there that he won his first trophy by leading the team to win the U.S. Leagues Cup.

The 36-year-old player told reporters that he was pleased with the choices he had made and with his move to Miami. In addition, he said that he liked playing in a different league and society and was looking forward to more challenges and successes.

Record-Extending Achievement

Messi’s eighth Ballon d’Or win extends his record tally for the most coveted individual honor in world soccer. No one else has won more than five Ballon d’Or. Cristiano Ronaldo has five, and Michel Platini, Johan Cruyff, and Marco van Basten each won it three times.

In addition, Messi has now won the award in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2023. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, if not the greatest. He has scored over 800 goals and won over 40 trophies in his career.
