A Czech national ice hockey goaltender, Petr Mrazek is currently signed to the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was picked 141 overall in the 5th round by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2010 NHL Draft.

Mrazek has represented his national side, the Czech Republic at both junior and senior level, playing at the various tournament.

Petr Mrazek's Playing Career

Junior

Petr Mrazek relocated to North America in 2009 and joined Ottawa 67’s, a major junior ice hockey team that plays in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).  In his debut season with Ottawa 7’s, Mrazek posted a 12-9-1 record in thirty games with a 3.00 GAA and .905 save percentage. At the finale of the season, Mrazek was picked 141si overall in the 5th round by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2010 NHL Draft.

On 19th October 2011, he signed a 3-year with the Red Wings. Nevertheless, he remained in the OHL for the 2011-12 season.

On 4th April 2011, after the conclusion of Ottawa’s season, he signed with the Grand Rapids Griffins which is the Detroit Red Wings’ American Hockey League affiliate.

Professional Career

Mrazek started off the 2012-13 season with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL, the Red Wing’s 2nd-tier minor league affiliate where he tasted first pro win against the Kalamazoo Wings in a 4-1.

He made his AHL debut representing the Griffins and made 29 saves in a 4-1 win against the Texas Stars n 3rd November 2013. His first professional shutout came on 2nd of February 2013, in a game against the Abbotsford Heat. Five days later, he made his NHL debut side the Red Wings, against the St. Louis Blues under captain Henrik Zetterberg.

He then went on to represent the Griffins at the AHL All-Star Classic and set the win in 7-6 games in 2013-14 season.  

On 1st of July 2014, Mrazek signed an extension contract with the Detroit Red Wings, agreeing on a one-year deal. In the 2014-15 season, he played 29 games for the Red Wings, recording 16-9-2 with 2.38 GAA, and .918 save percentage and 3 shutouts.

Again the following season, Mrazek went on to represent the Griffins but he was recalled by the Red Wings on 9th March 2015. Since being assigned to the Griffins on 17th February, he has not suffered a regulation loss. He holds a record of 9-2-1 total all games with Griffins this season, with a 2.06 goals against average a 0.927 save percentage.

On 16th of April 2015, Mrazek made his Stanley Cup playoff debut, playing against the Tampa Bay Lighting.

On 27th of July 2016, he again signed extension contract with the Red Wings, agreeing on a two-year deal and avoiding negotiation.

During the 2016-17 season, he played made his appearances in 50 games. He had a close relationship with his former teammate Justin Abdelkader.

On 19th February 2018, Mrazek was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a conditional 4th-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and a conditional 3rd-round pick in 2019 NHL Draft.

Later three days, he made his Flyer debut in a 2-1 win against the Columbia Blue Jackets.

Petr Mrazek's International Play

Petr Mrazek has played for his national side, the Czech Republic in both senior and junior level. He made his national debut for the Czech Republic at the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, where he won the IIHF Directorate Top Goaltender award as well as also named one of the Czech Republic’s top 3 players at the tournaments.

Moreover, he earned a bronze medal for his nation at the 2012 IIHF World Championship as the 3rd goaltender. He represented his country at the 2017 IIHF World Championship, where he recorded 1-2, with a .881 save percentage and 2.47 GAA.
