UFC 229: Jon Jones warns Khabib- "Don't Underestimate Conor. He's an athlete" MMA

Within a month's time, Khabib Nurmagomedov will defend his lightweight title against the former lightweight champion and his fierce opponent Conor McGregor in arguably the biggest bout in MMA history. The two lightweights will face each other at the main event of the UFC 229 that will take place on October 6  in Las Vegas.

The match is itself a hyped one as the two fighters have the two different acclaimed techniques- one with a world class grappling and another with the most deceptive striking.

Both the fighters have unarguably the best history in the octagon as the Dagestan native Khabib is still to be defeated after 26 fights while the Dubliner is the most decorated fighter and is the first person to hold two titles at the same time in UFC history.

While most of the people believe Khabib to dominate the bout with his wrestling, the two-time UFC Light-Heavyweight champion Jon Jones thinks otherwise.

Bones warned Khabib not to underestimate the Notorious although the Russian has the advantage on the ground.

"I believe that Conor McGregor has wrestling. I don’t think it’s at the level of Khabib. I believe Khabib will get the majority of his takedowns that he goes for but Conor, he’s an athlete. He shouldn’t be underestimated.”

Jones said during an appearance on Allow Me to Interrupt.

The fan of Khabib, Jones thinks Khabib doesn't have a great boxing defense and needs to work on work a lot of jiu-jitsu to improve.

I think Khabib, his boxing defense is not the strongest. I also don’t understand why he doesn’t work a lot of jiu-jitsu. If you can take down anybody, why not know how to finish them?

He depends on ground-and-pound and he never finishes anyone with that. Khabib’s a black belt wrestler. If he adds a black belt in jiu-jitsu to his recipe, he’d be extremely scary.”

The former number one pound-for-pound MMA fighter said.

Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon after two years of hiatus on October 6. While people are having doubts on his fight, his striking coach Owen Roddy believes the gap won't affect the Notorious.
