Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha famous as Nani is a professional football player who plays as a winger for Portugal's national team and Major League Soccer side Orlando City SC. Nani’s Early Career and Family

Nani was born as Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha to mother, Maria do Ceu Almeida and father, Domingos Antonio Cunha David on November 17, 1986, in Amadora, Portugal.  He holds a Portuguese nationality and is of Cape Verdean background.

He was nicknamed by his elder sister when he was very young.

His father and mother abandoned him and his nine other siblings from his mother and five from father's side. He was raised by his aunt in Amadora. His older brother introduced him to football and later joined the Portuguese club Real Massama to start his playing career.

Nani’s Professional Career

After playing for the junior team of Sporting CP, he joined the main team to began his senior career in 2005. He made his debut for Sporting CP against Udinese Calcio during the UEFA Champions League when he came as a substitute for Custodio on 10 August 2005.

Nani scored his first goal against Boavista on 30 October 2005 and was the part of the team that went on to win the Taca de Portugal in 2006/07.

After his playing for Sporting CP, he signed a five-year contract with English Premier League giant Manchester United FC for an estimated transfer fee of around  €25.5 million in 2007 along with his fellow Portuguese player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

He made his Premier League debut against Reading on 12 August 2007 when he came on as a substitute for Wayne Rooney and scored his first goal against Tottenham Hotspur on 26 August 2007.

While playing for Manchester United, he was transferred to his former club, Sporting CP as a loan for the 2014/15 season.

After a successful stint with Man United, he signed a three-year contract deal with the Turkish football club, Fenerbahce a reported fee of £4.25 million in the summer of 2015. He debuted alongside Robin Van Persie against Shakhtar Donetsk on 28 July 2015 during the Champions League Qualifiers.

Nani then moved to Spain and signed a three-year contract with Valencia CF for a reported transfer fee of £4.25 million in the summer of 2016.

He was on loan to Italian Serie A club, SS Lazio for a season in 2017 and scored his first goal against Benevento on 29 October 2017.

Furthermore, Nani joined Orlando City, signing a 3-year contract on a Designated Player deal on 18 February 2019.

After playing for the Portugal national team at the UEFA U21 Championship, he made his full senior international debut as well as scored his first international goal against Denmark on 1st September 2006. He has played at major FIFA tournaments like Euro, World Cup, and Confederation Cup for Portugal.

Nani played a crucial and scoring three at the UEFA Euro Championships 2016 in France which helped the Portugal team to win the cup.
