Mirsad Bektic was born on 26th of February 1991, in Srebrenica, SFR Yugoslavia (today Bosnia and Herzegovina). At three, he with his family: mother, Suada Bektic, and siblings, moved to Italy escaping the Bosnian War, a conflict which claimed the lives of his maternal grandparents and several relatives.
Again, the family relocated for 5 years in Germany and then after to the United States where his family settled in Lincoln, Nebraska. He attended Irving Middle School and is a graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School.
He started off training Karate after moving to the United States before transitioning to mixed martial arts in 2008.

In 2011, Bektic made his professional debut, competing primarily in the regional promotions across the Central United States. On 4th March 2017, Bektic got defeated by Darren Elkins at UFC 209, via KO on the third round.
Almost after 10 months, Bektic return to face Godofredo Pepey at UFC on Fox: Jacare vs. Brunson 2. He won the fight by TKO in the first round.
