Mfon Sunday Udoka is a Nigerian-American former professional basketball player who is an assistant coach for the Nigeria women’s national basketball team, the D’Tigress. She was born on June 16, 1976, in Portland, Oregon, U.S. She is the older sister of Ime Udoka, a former NBA player and a coach.

Professional Career

Udoka started her professional career in 1998 when she joined the Detroit Shock of the WNBA. She played in three games for the Shock before going to Portugal for the 1998-99 season. She returned to school in 2000 to complete her degree and heal from an ACL tear. She resumed her basketball career in 2001 with the Birmingham Power of the National Women’s Basketball League (NWBL).

Later, she played in Israel, China, and again in the NWBL until 2003. In 2003, she joined the Houston Comets of the WNBA as a free agent. She appeared in 25 games and started three of them, averaging 3.2 points per game.

In 2004, she signed with the Los Angeles Sparks for the short duration of the season, after competing for Nigeria in the Athens Olympics. She played in only three games for the Sparks. After departing Los Angeles, Udoka played in Spain, Russia, Turkey, and France until 2007.
