Marvin Williams entered the 2005 NBA draft where he was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with their second overall pick. In his rookie season run with the Hawks, he averaged 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds and was named to the 2005-06 All-NBA Rookie second team.
After four seasons and the end of his rookie contract with the Hawks, Williams re-signed to a five-year, $37.5 million deal with the team on August 7, 2009. After four more seasons with the team, he was traded to the Utah Jazz on July 11, 2012, in exchange for Devin Harris.
