Mario Gomez was in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Silvia Meichel, a pharmacy student, in 2003. Early Life of Mario Gomez

Mario Gomez was born as Mario Gomez Garcia on July 10, 1985, in Riedlingen, West Germany. He was born to his father, Pepe Gomez, and mother, Christel Roth and grew up along with his siblings. Currently, Gomez holds German and Spanish nationality.

Youth Career

At the age of 5, Mario Gomez began his career joining the youth academy of “SV Unlingen” in 1990. Gomez then played for clubs including FV Bad Saulgau, SSV Ulm, and VfB Stuttgart.

Mario Gomez Professional Career

In 2003, Mario Gomez joined VfB Stuttgart II. He scored 21 goals in 43 matches in his two years duration with the team. Similarly, Gomez also played for VfB Stuttgart from the 2003-09 season in the Bundesliga. He left the club in 2009 after scoring 63 goals in over a hundred matches.

Bayern Munich

Mario Gomez then signed a four year deal with Bayern Munich with the transfer fee of around € 35 million depending on several sources, a third highest fee in Munich. In 2011, he became the top scorer in the Champions League, where they lost to Chelsea in the final.

Along with his team, Mario won the Bundesliga(2009-10, 2012-13), DFB Pokal, DFL Super Cup, and UEFA Champions League. He made over a hundred appearances and scored 75 goals before ending his career with the club in 2013.


After four years with Munich, Gomez signed a four-year contract with Fiorentina in 2013 with the transfer fee around € 20 million. After two years, he was loaned to Besiktas, with an option to buy. His team won the Super Lig; 2015-16.


Gomez then signed a new deal with Wolfsburg on August 17, 2016. The following year, he scored the first goal for the club against Darmstadt 98 on October 22. He has so far scored 17 goals in 40 matches.

Mario Gomez International Career

Mario Gomez began his international career since the of 14. He has represented his team in Germany U-15, U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20, U-21 and Germany B national team. He then made his official debut for the Germany senior team against Switzerland in February 2007.

He has been honored with German footballer of the year in 2007, DFB-Pokal Top goalscorer, Bundesliga top goalscorer, Super Lig Top Goalscorer, etc in his career. He became the second-highest scorer in the 2012 Euro Cup as well, after Fernando Torres.
