Parents & Early Years

Luuk is the son of Loekie Ratering and George de Jong: both are the Dutch volleyball players who played professionally in that country. Unlike his parents, he and his brother, Siem de Jong, chose football. The brothers started their football career in Doetinchem at the amateur club DZC '68 and were recruited by the local professional club De Graafschap. As of now, Siem is signed to FC Cincinnati.

Career

A youth product of De Graafschap, De Jong made his senior debut for the club in a match versus NAC Breda, coming on as a substitute in 2008. After that season he signed a contract for three years with an option for another year with Twente. He played 75 games with 39 goals for Twente. On 18 July 2012, de Jong moved to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, signing a five-year deal.

On 29 January 2014, de Jong agreed on a loan deal with Premier League side Newcastle United until the end of the 2013–14 season.

On 12 July 2014, he joined PSV Eindhoven, signing a five-year contract. On 1 July 2019, de Jong inked a four-year contract with the Spanish club Sevilla.
