The goal led the opponents at the Clermont’s Stade Gabriel-Montpied to sing the name of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who endured a difficult first season in Paris. Messi would have been hoping to hit the ground running after a disappointing 2021/22 campaign and had a stellar performance in the first game.
