At an early age of three, Volland began playing football for FC Thalhofen, where he remained 10 years. In 2005, he was transferred to FC Memmingen’s C-Youth team, to play for the top amateur of the time, Bavarian League.  

A year later, Volland joined TSG Thannhausen. Again during the summer of 2007, he switched to 1860 Munich’s youth academy. He played overall 23 matches for club’s U19 team, scoring 7 goals in the 2009-10 seasons.

At the start of the 2010-11 seasons, Kevin Volland along with other youth players like Markus Ziereis, Moritz Leitner, and Daniel Hofstetter was promoted to the main squad of Hoffenheim. On 14th August 2010, he made his competitive debut for 1860 in the cup match in Verl.

In January 2011, Volland signed a contract with 1899 Hoffenheim, but initially remained in Munich and played one more season for the club.

Volland joined 1899 Hoffenheim at the start of the 2012-13 season and established himself as a regular in the squad. During his first season, Volland scored six goals and recorded 12 assists.

The next season, he improved his scoring total, recording 9 goals and provided further 8 assists. On 28 July 2013, he signed a new extended contract with the club for until 2017.

Bayer Leverkusen

On 20th May 2016, Volland signed a 5-year contract deal with Bayer Leverkusen for a club recorded transfer fee of $22.34 million. He scored the first goal for his club side in a 2-2 penalty shoot-out loss against Sportfreunde Lotte in the DFB Pokal.

Thus far, he has made 40 appearances and scored 16 goals for Leverkusen.

Kevin Volland has represented his national side at both senior and junior level, playing in various tournaments. On 16th October 2008, he made his Germany U17 national team debut against U17 Czech Republic team. He was also the team member of the German squad for the “2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup” in Nigeria.

Volland also played for Germany U18, U19, U20, and U21 national team.
