JP Buys was born in 1997, in Brakpan, Gauteng South Africa. Not much known about his childhood and parents is known yet as he has recently entered the UFC.
In 2011, he started wrestling to become a better Rugby player. He then started to feel that to do individual sports are better because he is completely in control of everything that happens. He wrestled for a few years during his high school, and following his graduation, he had the whole image of becoming an Olympics wrestler. He began training full-time at an MMA gym to add extra tools in the game.
Later, Buys won “2012 African wrestling championship” as well as earned the 12th place at 2013 Cadet world wrestling championship. Additionally, he too held “Fightstars amateur bantamweight championship” and “EFC Worldwide flyweight champion”.
JP Buys is fully involved in MMA, thus his major source of income is MMA only as he has not revealed any information regarding his other business and endorsement deals. As of 2018, he is signed to UFC but has not competed in the official UFC match yet.

On 28th August 2015, JP Buys made his professional MMA debut against Baldwin Mdlalose at EFFC: Extreme Fighting Championship 43. He lost his first official fight via submission (Rear Naked Choke) in the first round. He is one of the MMA's young star, along with Mads Burnell and Galore Bofando.
In his second professional fight, he defeated Revan De Beer at EFC: Extreme Fighting Championship 47 in the round one, by Submission (Rear Naked Choke).

He next faced Abdul Hassan at EFC: Extreme Fighting Championship 49 on 13th May 2016. He won the fight by TKO in the round second.
JP Buys’ fourth fight came against Baldwin on 15th October 2016 at EFC 54: EFC Worldwide 54. He recorded his victory via submission (Triangle Choke) in the first round.
On 22nd August 2017, he appeared against Joby Sanchez at DWTNCS 7. He lost the fight in the second round through TKO.
Jp Buys, 21, is a private person. Till the date, he has not disclosed any information related to his love life, not even his relationship status.
