Jeff Larentowicz is an American soccer player who currently plays for Atlanta United in Major League Soccer. In the past, he has played for teams like the New England Revolution, Phantoms, Colorado Rapids and Chicago Fire. In the 2010 MLS Cup Championship, he was the starting midfielder on Colorado Rapids. He plays the position of midfielder and defender. He is considered to be one of the most consistent midfielders in MLS.


Larentowicz was called up to train with the senior U.S. national team on December 22, 2010. His first international match was on January of 2011 which was a friendly match against Chile. Though he has played a few friendly matches for the U.S. national team, he has yet to represent the country in competitive matches.

Jeffrey Adam Larentowicz was born on August 5, 1983, in Pasadena, California to parents Ron Larentowicz and Margie Larentowicz. His parents are of Polish descent. He joined Brown University where he played soccer from 2001 to 2004.

During his time at the university, he helped Brown to two Ivy League Championships. He ended his collegiate career with 7 goals and 6 assists playing in 66 matches.

Professional Life of Jeff Larentowicz

Jeff Larentowicz's name was entered in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft where he was picked by New England Revolution in the fourth round as 45th overall. He spent the entirety of his first year of a professional career on the bench of New England. He only began to see more playing time starting from 2006. He started in 19 games of 2006 and appearing in seven more games. He scored his first professional goal on August 27, 2006, against the Columbus Crew.

Larentowicz joined the starting roster of the team in 2007 firmly establishing himself as a regular. He has been given various nicknames throughout his career. He was nicknamed the Ginja Ninja after scoring an acrobatic goal against Chicago Fire on May 6, 2007. He was also called der Kaiser by Paul Mariner for his ability to join the offensive half of the pitch despite being a defensive midfielder.

Jeff Larentowicz along with Wells Thompson was traded to Colorado Rapids on January 21, 2010, in exchange for Preston Burpo, Cory Gibbs, a 2011 MLS SuperDraft pick and allocation money. He played three seasons with the team before being traded to Chicago Fire on January 16, 2013, in exchange for a first-round selection in the 2013 SuperDraft.

Larentowicz proved to be a good fit for the team as on his very first season with the team, he was able to score two goals and four assists appearing in 32 games. He showed firm capabilities of leading the team and was given the captaincy anytime Logan Pause had to remain away from the field. He went on to succeed the position of captain in 2014 following Pauses's retirement.

The Chicago Fire did not pick up Larentowicz's option at the end of the 2015 agent resulting in him being a free agent. On January 6, 2016, Larentowicz signed with the LA Galaxy. He made his debut with the team on April 23, 2016, facing Real Salt Lake which ended with a 5-2 victory. After the end of 2016 season, Larentowicz once again became a free agent and was signed by Atlanta United in December 2016.
