Larentowicz was called up to train with the senior U.S. national team on December 22, 2010. His first international match was on January of 2011 which was a friendly match against Chile. Jeff Larentowicz along with Wells Thompson was traded to Colorado Rapids on January 21, 2010, in exchange for Preston Burpo, Cory Gibbs, a 2011 MLS SuperDraft pick and allocation money. He played three seasons with the team before being traded to Chicago Fire on January 16, 2013, in exchange for a first-round selection in the 2013 SuperDraft.

Larentowicz proved to be a good fit for the team as on his very first season with the team, he was able to score two goals and four assists appearing in 32 games. He showed firm capabilities of leading the team and was given the captaincy anytime Logan Pause had to remain away from the field. He went on to succeed the position of captain in 2014 following Pauses's retirement.
The Chicago Fire did not pick up Larentowicz's option at the end of the 2015 agent resulting in him being a free agent. On January 6, 2016, Larentowicz signed with the LA Galaxy. He made his debut with the team on April 23, 2016, facing Real Salt Lake which ended with a 5-2 victory. After the end of 2016 season, Larentowicz once again became a free agent and was signed by Atlanta United in December 2016.
