United States President Joe Biden has publicly announced the return of WNBA star Brittney Griner to her home country, the United States. The last nine months have been tough for Brittney and her family. Sources claim that Russia released Criner in a 1-for-1 prisoner swap.
"She's safe. She's on a plane. She's on her way home," President Biden said in a tweet.
Viktor Bout was released from the United States, who is convicted international Arms Dealer. He was famous for the "Merchant of Death" and has long been a high priority for the Kremlin.
The Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Bout in Thailand following a sting operation in 2008. He was convicted of conspiring to kill Americans and began his 25-year sentence a decade ago.
Griner was detained at a Russian airport in February and later pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the discovery of cannabis-derived oil cartridges in her luggage.
