Adeniji was born on December 8, 1997, in Garland, Texas to parents Joke Adeniji and Semia Adeniji. Before they moved to Dallas, his mom Semia used to be a TV anchor in Nigeria. His brother Moshood played football on the offensive line at Air Force.

In addition, he went to Garland High School, playing both football and basketball. Initially, he planned to play at the United States Air Force Academy, but a cashew allergy prevented him from getting a medical waiver. So, he then committed to the University of Kansas. 

The Remarkable College Career 

Hakeem Adeniji had a standout college football journey at the University of Kansas from 2016 to 2019. He showed remarkable durability and consistency by starting in all 48 games for the Kansas Jayhawks.

Throughout his time in college, he played a crucial role in the team's success on offense. His efforts earned him recognition as a two-time All-Big 12 selection, making the first team in 2019 and the second team in 2018.

Adeniji was chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals as the 180th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He began playing in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers as a backup guard and got his first career start in Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans, this time as a tackle.

In that game, the Bengals, who had struggled with sacks earlier, didn't allow any for the first time that season. In his rookie year, he started five games and played in 15.

In 2021, Adeniji had a pectoral injury during off-season workouts, leading to season-ending surgery. He missed the entire season.

Returning in 2022, he played in 15 games and started once at tackle. As part of the Bengals' offensive line, they helped quarterback Joe Burrow lead the league in passing yards and touchdowns and running back Joe Mixon lead in rushing yards.

In 2023, he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a fifth-round draft pick. Joining a Vikings offensive line with Pro Bowlers Brian O’Neill and Garrett Bradbury, Adeniji played in four games as a backup but didn't start any.
